Seeds of Civil Society (Libya)- 2012
Integra is presently implementing a research project in Libya. The aim is to engage with civil society actors in Libya and explore potential avenues for collaboration with Maltese NGOs and Youth Groups. The exploratory research, which includes fieldwork in Libya, will explore a range of thematic areas, including environmental sustainability and poverty reduction, disability, migration, youth, development education, and spirituality. Other areas include inter-faith dialogue, civil society capacity building and networking. This project is funded by the VO Fund managed by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS). Emergency health care for the disabled extreme poor in rural Guatemala (Guatemala)- 2012
The project builds up on years of research and programme involvement in the field of disability and chronic poverty in Guatemala. It responds to one of the most critical needs and problems- the lack or absence of access to adequate health care by the poorest disabled people. It importantly responds to the fact that the ill-health of the disabled family member negatively impacts livelihoods, constrains access to most assets (human, social, physical, financial and natural capital) and is a major source of deep and chronic poverty for whole families. The project will provide much needed assistance to disabled people with accessing emergency health care, in particular to those residing in the poorest areas and indigenous populations living in the most distant and remote mountains. It prioritises those living in the most desperate and impoverished conditions. The project is currently funded by the ODA scheme of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Malta.
The Health Access to Migrants (HUMA) network
Integra formed part of the Health Access to Migrants, Working Group within SKOP, the National Platform of Maltese NGDOs. The HUMA network project, a network initiated by Médecins du Monde, and composed of 16 partners in 16 EU countries, promoted access to healthcare for undocumented migrants and asylum seekers on an equal basis with nationals within the EU from 2008 till 2011. EU Citizenship on Wheels
Integra teamed up with three NGOs, OASI Foundation, Richmond Foundation and the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Malta on a project aimed at bringing Europe closer to its citizens by promoting better understanding of EU citizenship values among Maltese people. The project, entitled ‘Tal-Linja ghal Cittadinanza Ewropea’ (EU Citizenship on Wheels) was co-financed by the European Union under the Active European Citizenship programme. More information here
Empowering Youth for Diversity
The project provided Maltese young people with the opportunity to experience multiculture first hand by bridging the gap between young Maltese and young refugees residing in Malta. Following an information sharing session regarding refugee issues, Maltese youth were encouraged and supported to establish contact with other young refugees and asylum seekers. The project provided the opportunity to share, challenge myths and stereotypes, engage in open discussion, and develop friendships. The project supported the wider fight against racism and xenophobia, and other forms of discrimination and intolerance. The programme was part funded and supported by the EU, YOUTH Programme. More information here
